What are social tariffs and am I elligible?

While around 8 million households struggle to pay for their broadband and phone bills, a handful of broadband providers have introduced ‘Social Tariffs’. These tariffs are often a heavily discounted version of what we’d call their ‘standard’ fibre plans.

Speeds

The social tariff’s speeds range from around 20Mbps to 150Mbps across providers and the prices of these vary from £15 to £25, which BroadbandSearch believe is fair.

Savings

The industry regulator Ofcom says that 4.2 million low-income households are elligible for these social tariffs but that only 136,000 have taken advantage of them and are missing out on a saving of around £144 a year.

Eligibility
